The same forces push the diver and the climber. In the exploration of the depths, or in the ascent of inhospitable summits, both seek ways to fully immerse themselves in it.
Frédéric Swierczynski is one of the best diver-speleologists in the world. Sébastien Devrient, the director, is a mountain guide. They plan to go on a very high-altitude diving expedition. A long preparation is necessary before embarking on this project in complete autonomy.
In Argentina, the Ojos Del Salado volcano is home to the highest lakes in the world. This is where they want to achieve their feat: diving unassisted to over 6,000 meters above sea level, without the tons of equipment and logistics that usually accompany this kind of expedition. Diving together, alone, respecting nature and its constraints. With simplicity and lightness as their only guides.
The film follows two years of preparation and expedition, starting from the Comex Hypobaric Centre in France up to the dive in on the slopes of the Ojos Del Salado in Argentina.

S’immerger dans les profondeurs du lac le plus haut du monde, dans le désert d’Atacama, est un défi autant sportif que scientifique. Pour le guide de haute montagne et réalisateur Sébastien Devrient, c’est une manière de renouer avec l’univers de la haute montagne, après un accident qui l’a éloigné définitivement des 8000 qu’il espérait conquérir.
Accompagné par le plongeur Frédéric Swierczynski, il décide de s’alléger au maximum pour réaliser, en première mondiale, la plongée la plus haute du monde.
Une démarche qui va devenir une philosophie de travail et d’approche, à la découverte de milieux aquatiques en haute montagne encore inexplorés.
Le film suit deux ans de préparation et d’expéditions, en partant du centre expérimental hypobare de la Comex pour s’ouvrir sur la nature et à la découverte de ce petit lac niché à 6400 mètres d’altitude sur les flancs de l’Ojos del Salado, un volcan en activité qui garde encore aujourd’hui ses mystères.
